St. Margaret Mary celebrates 60 years

St. Margaret Mary Catholic School in downtown Winter Park will celebrate its 60th anniversary this Saturday, Nov. 15, with a mass and reception. Bishop John Noonan will celebrate the mass. From its humble beginnings of 252 elementary school students in 1954 to 580 students including a middle school, the school proudly instructs students in the way of the faith while offering an academically challenging curriculum and enrichment opportunities in the arts, sports and technology.

Morse Museum gifted Merita Bread sign

Crews from the Charles Hosmer Morse Museum of American Art and Jayco Signs will remove the iconic Merita Bread neon signs from the top of the old bakery building where the bakery served as the unofficial gateway to Orlando for more than 50 years. The bakery closed in 2012. The signs, each measuring approximately 18-feet-high by 30-feet-long, were acquired by the Museum through a gift from Maudlin International Trucks of Orlando. In addition, the gift includes the neon letters from the building front that spell out “Merita Bread Company.”

Gym to move in

NAI Realvest recently closed the sale of two bank-owned office buildings totaling 2,915 square feet on a 0.32-acre site at 676 Cherry St. in Winter Park. NAI Realvest Principal Matt Cichocki, along with associate Mitch Heidrich, negotiated the transaction representing the seller U.S. Bank National Assn. of West Palm Beach. The local buyer, Frank J. Cosentio, paid $260,500 for the property and plans to move his business – Lajur Gym – to this location.
