Nov. 10 City Commission meeting highlights

Consent Agenda

• The minutes of Oct. 13, 2014 were approved.

• The blanket purchase orders, purchases and formal solicitations (for a complete listing visit cityofwinterpark.org/ccpackets) were approved.

• The Monday, Dec. 22, City Commission meeting was cancelled due to the Christmas holiday.

• The amendment to the parking easement agreement with BFC Park Avenue, LLC for the Welbourne Avenue/Center Street compactor site was approved.

Action Items Requiring Discussion

• The scope of services for visioning was approved as presented. Staff will begin developing a Request for Proposal as defined in the agenda item.

• The West Fairbanks Business Façade Program was approved.

Public Hearings

• The second reading of the ordinance authorizing the conveyance of the city-owned property, located at 300 N. Pennsylvania Ave. was approved.

• The first reading of the ordinance requested by Jewett Orthopedic Clinic to vacate a utility easement at 1245 Orange Ave. was approved.

• The first reading of the ordinance requested by DePugh Nursing Home to vacate a utility easement at 500 W. Morse Blvd. was approved.

• The first reading of the ordinance amending the Fiscal Year 2014 adopted budget was approved.

• The resolution supporting the proposed “All Aboard Florida” intercity passenger rail service between downtown Miami and the Orlando International Airport was approved.

• The resolution approving an amended and restated development order for the Ravaudage development was approved with amendments.

• The request of Benjamin Partners Ltd. and American Land Ventures Inc. for approval of setback amendments for the fifth and sixth floors of the proposed six-story, 296-unit apartment, project was tabled.

Urban coyote public meeting

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission and partners, including county and municipal government agencies, are holding a public meeting Thursday, Nov. 13, in Orlando to provide information on how to coexist with coyotes. Experts will be available to address questions and concerns regarding coyotes in eastern Orange County. The meeting is from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the first-floor Commission Chambers of the Orange County Administration Building, located at 201 S. Rosalind Ave. in Orlando. Half off ice rink tickets and great Disney giveaways!

Beginning Friday, Nov. 14, through Sunday, Jan. 11, the city of Winter Park will bundle up once again for “Winter in the Park,” the city’s annual holiday ice skating rink, presented by the Community Redevelopment Agency. The rink is located in Central Park West Meadow at 150 N. New York Ave., on the corner of New York Avenue and Morse Boulevard in downtown Winter Park.

For the opening weekend, Saturday, Nov. 15, and Sunday, Nov. 16, make sure to visit the Disney giveaway station at Winter in the Park for cool giveaways and:

• a chance to win “Maleficent” on DVD! “Maleficient” arrived on Disney Blu-ray Combo Pack, Digital HD, Disney Movies Anywhere, DVD and On Demand on Tuesday, Nov. 4.

• a chance to win “Planes: Fire & Rescue” on DVD! “Planes: Fire & Rescue” landed on Disney Blu-ray Combo Pack, Digital HD, Disney Movies Anywhere, DVD and On Demand Tuesday, Nov. 4.

Holiday Window Contest

The city of Winter Park Community Redevelopment Agency is proud to announce its fifth annual “Winter in the Park” Holiday Window Contest. Participating merchants must have their window displays completed and ready for official online voting photos by Friday, Nov. 21. Judging will begin Monday, Dec. 1.

The Holiday Window Contest will feature participating Park Avenue, Hannibal Square and surrounding area merchants as they transform their storefronts into works of art. The contest will be judged in two different categories, the “Design Excellence Award” and “Peoples’ Choice Award.”

Preselected judges from the local community will determine the winner of the “Design Excellence Award” based on creativity, appeal, theme, use of color, use of space, and merchandising. This award winner will receive a $500 electric utility bill credit generously provided by the city of Winter Park Electric Utility Department.

To determine the winner of the “Peoples’ Choice Award,” patrons of participating merchants are encouraged to vote for their favorite window between Monday, Dec. 1, and Wednesday, Dec. 31. Patrons may vote for their favorite window online at cityofwinterpark.org/HWC or by scanning the code and in participating merchant windows. This award winner will receive a $250 electric utility bill credit also generously provided by the city of Winter Park Electric Utility Department.
