Record number animal adoptions
Orange County Animal Services has reached record high adoption numbers for each of the past three months. The shelter initially hit a record high adoption month in June with 569 pets adopted. The success continued in July with 646 adoptions and through August with 693 adoptions. Last month, 364 dogs, 322 cats and seven smaller pets — including rabbits, guinea pigs and ferrets — left the shelter with new forever families resulting in a total of 693 adoptions. Help support Harbor House
New research from The Allstate Foundation confirms domestic violence affects one in four women in their lifetime – yet it’s a difficult topic to talk about. To get the conversation started and raise awareness for domestic violence, The Allstate Foundation created the Purple Purse Challenge. Local Harbor House of Central Florida in Orlando is one of more than 140 nonprofit organizations across the country participating.
Local Orlando residents are encouraged to join The Purple Purse Challenge by donating to Harbor House of Central Florida through the Team Page located on PurplePurse.com through Oct. 3. Money donated will benefit life-changing financial empowerment services for survivors. With 98 percent of victims also suffering financial abuse, where an abuser will limit access to money and credit, often keeping her trapped in a dangerous situation, these services are critical to help women break free and stay free.
