Mayor-elect to take office

On Monday, April 13, Mayor-Elect Dale McDonald will be sworn into office.

The Inaugural Ceremony will take place on Monday, April 13, at 6:30 p.m. in the Maitland City Hall Council Chambers. The general public is invited to attend this event.

Keller ball field work

Spring and summer is the time for baseball. The Public Works Department performed the following work to prepare the ball fields for use this spring and summer.

Some of the work the staff performed included:

• Aerifying the turf

• Verticutting the turf

• Overseeding the turf with double eagle ryegrass to improve aesthetics and prevent weed germination

• Regrading the infield clay

• Applying an infield conditioner to reduce compaction or rainouts

• Rebuilding the mounds on the fields and bullpens

• Pressure washing the batting cages

• Performing fence repairs

• Replacing the obsolete field lights with Musco Green Lighting System to meet Little League standards and reduce electrical costs

Thank you, Public Works staff, for maintaining and beautifying the ball fields.

Community Redevelopment Agency Advisory Board appointment applications being accepted

If you reside in the city of Maitland and are interested in being considered for appointment to the Community Redevelopment Agency Advisory Board, please contact the City Clerk at [email protected] for an application. The purpose of this board is to provide recommendations to the City’s Community Redevelopment Agency regarding several items, including long-term planning objectives, changes to the Redevelopment Plan, the issuance of debt in the implementation of the Redevelopment Plan, and review recommendations for various development projects.

Free CPR training offered by the Fire Rescue Department

The Maitland Fire Rescue Department will offer a free class on Adult, Child, and Infant CPR, AED Training, and Choking Emergencies.

The class will be held on Thursday, April 30, from 5 to 9 p.m. at City Council Chambers at 1776 Independence Lane.

Ladies learn self-defense techniques

The next Self-Defense Awareness & Familiarization Exchange (S.A.F.E.) class is on Wednesday, April 15, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Maitland Community Park. Please call 407-539-0042 to sign up for this free class.

Maitland Chamber of Commerce’s Spring Festival of the Arts

The 2015 Maitland Spring Festival of the Arts will showcase the work of more than 100 artists and craftsmen on April 11 and 12 at Lake Lily Park. Stop by from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday or 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday for art, sun, and fun. Music from the Performing Arts of Maitland and children’s activities also will be presented at this year’s event. For more information, please visit maitlandspringartfestival.com.

Similarly, the Maitland Farmers Market will close on Sunday, April 12, for the Spring Festival of the Arts. The market will reopen on Sunday, April 19. See you then!
