AARP’s Driver Safety course, “Smart Driver,” will be held from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 2, at the Altamonte Springs Mall C.O.P.S. Center, located at 451 E. Altamonte Drive in Altamonte Springs. This program helps participants refresh driving skills and develop safer driving habits. Upon completion of this course, Florida Drivers aged 50 or older may be eligible for vehicle insurance discounts. Cost is $15 for AARP members, and $20 for non-members. Registration is required. Join the Roth Family JCC of Greater Orlando at its Harriett & Hymen Lake Cultural Center Auditorium for a very special 50th anniversary production of "Fiddler on the Roof," presented by Theater at the J and directed by Kerry Giese on May 2 through May 10. The exciting ambiance of the Kentucky Derby is brought right here to Winter Park. Come view a live broadcast of the Kentucky Derby on Saturday, May 2, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Winter Park Country Club. This Derby on Park event boasts unlimited craft beer and wine along with samplings of delicious food and desserts from various local vendors for all in attendance. National Alliance on Mental Illness Greater Orlando’s (NAMIGO) will host its 11th annual “NAMIWalks, Changing Minds…One Step at a Time” mental health awareness and fundraising event starting at 8 a.m. on Saturday, May 2, at Cranes Roost Park in Altamonte Springs. This is a family event with activities for children, a silent auction, and educational materials for NAMIGO. There is no entry fee, but each walker is encouraged to raise $100. The Jewish Pavilion is teeing off for its third annual Pavilion Golf Society (PGS) Tournament at 7:30 a.m. on Sunday, May 3, at Alaqua Country Club in Longwood to raise funds for the Orlando Senior Help Desk, a free senior resource offered by the Jewish Pavilion that helps seniors and their families avoid the “sand traps” along the daunting senior maze. Cocina 214 is hosting its third annual Running of the Chihuahuas on Sunday, May 3, starting at 10 a.m. The event will include the annual Chihuahua race as well as a DJ, food and drink specials, Tito’s Vodka photo booth, and Cocina’s fourth anniversary block party. Wildflowers are a big deal. In celebration of National Wildflower Week, come out to a “Why Wildflowers” seminar by Lisa Roberts, executive director of the Florida Wildflower Foundation on May 5 at the Maitland Public Library. The event will start at 7 p.m. and the presentation will be followed by a Q&A session. Among the topics explored will be how we’re deeply connected to wildflowers, how we depend on them for the food we eat, and how we can help bring them to local landscapes and roadsides. Get your fresh produce at our mobile farmers market on the first Tuesday (May 5) and first Thursday (May 7) of each month at Shady Park in Hannibal Square. Market to Park is open on the first Tuesday of the month during lunch, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., so residents and working families can pick up fresh produce during their lunch break. On the first Thursday of each month, the Market to Park is open during the evening commute, 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. so working families can easily access fresh vegetables on their way home from work and immediately serve a fresh and healthy dinner. The Market to Park program was started with a grant from Healthy Central Florida with the intent to increase access to fresh vegetables in our community.

Get ready for the return of D.C.-based conceptual artist Brian Feldman! He will be back to present his first Florida performance in four years – and Winter Park premiere – of one of his signature projects, “txt” on May 7 at 8 p.m. at the Winter Park Public Library. The proceeds go to a Winter Park resident, and Feldman’s close friend Hannah Miller, currently battling a serious rare disease called Myasthenia Gravis. The “txt” show in interactive, featuring Feldman as a character named txt who recites dialogue written anonymously by an audience in real time via Twitter. Based entirely upon what the audience writes in anonymity, this performance may contain mature themes, profane language and explicit sexual content. Bring your smartphones fully charged and ready to go, no need to have a Twitter account to participate. Donations will be accepted at the door; 100 percent go to Hannah. The Orlando-Winter Park Chapter of American Association of University Women, or AAUW, will sponsor a presentation on the subject of human trafficking by Emily Pasnak-Lapchick, end human trafficking officer at the U. S. Fund for UNICEF, on May 7. Following her talk, the film “Not My Life” will be shown. The event will start at 7 p.m. at the University Club of Winter Park. The American Association of University Women, or AAUW, has a special program planned for May 9 at 9 a.m. A breakfast and a talk by Arnold Breman will enlighten attendees about show business. The meeting will be held at the First Congregational Church Fellowship Hall in Winter Park. Breman’s talk “Show Business Mommas” will share his experiences with some of the biggest names in show business over his 47 years in the business. Admission is $15, and it includes breakfast.
