Help us master our planning

The city of Maitland Parks and Recreation Master Plan update is nearing completion and will be finalized in early 2016.

Citizens have one final opportunity to provide input in to this important planning process by participating in an online discussion forum on the website "my sidewalk." Various questions relating to priorities for the Maitland Parks and Recreation system will be posted at https://maitlandmasterplan.mysidewalk.com/. Please visit this site and contribute your ideas.

Santa’s Parade tentative schedule released

The tentative schedule for Santa’s Parade on Dec. 12 is available on itsmymaitland.com. Route times are approximate and may deviate based on traffic conditions or other unforeseen circumstances. New this year, the Maitland Police Department will post periodic updates of the whereabouts of the procession on social media.

Below is an excerpt of the tentative schedule:

10 a.m.: Depart Police Department. Left onto Fennell Street. Right onto Keller Road. Left on Kennedy Boulevard. Left on Deacon Jones. Right on Carver, Right on Bethune. Left on Kennedy. Follow up to Wymore Road. Left on Wymore. Right on Rogers Avenue. Left on Kentucky then right on Warrens Avenue. Right on Calhoun Avenue. Follow up to Kennedy. Left onto Kennedy. Right on West. Left on Fitzgerald. Right on Jonotay. Left onto Monroe Avenue. Slowly pass the Hamlet Subdivision. Continue to the entrance of 201 Monroe. Slowly pass the apartment complex.

10:15 a.m.: Follow Monroe Avenue east to U.S. Highway 17-92. Turn left to head north to Magnolia Road. Turn right on Magnolia then right on Ridgewood. Continue south to Alpine, turn left to Sunnyside, turn left going north on Sunnyside back to Magnolia. Turn left Magnolia to 17-92, turn right and proceed to Lake Avenue.

10:30 a.m.: Left on Lake Avenue. Left on Grove Street. Left on Gulfview. Left on Waverly Lane. Right on Grove Street. Right on Lake Avenue.

10:40 a.m.: Left onto Cottontail. Left onto Lake Catherine Drive. Left onto Boynton. Right onto Ventris. Left on Central to Packwood. Right on Packwood towards Maitland Avenue.

10:45 a.m.: Continue east on Packwood. Pass Fire Department. Left on Swoope. Right on Horatio. Right on Oakleigh Lane. Loop around Oakleigh Drive. Left on Old Horatio. Left on West Trotters. Loop around East Trotters and return to Horatio.

Reminder: Two Parks & Recreation events on Dec. 12

  1. Come help the mayor and city council of the city of Maitland officially open the newly renovated Kings Row Park at 10 a.m. A ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held and refreshments will be served. Please contact the city of Maitland Parks and Recreation office at 407-539-6247 for more information. The address for Kings Row Park is 1895 Adams Drive.

  2. “Cinderella” is this month's Screen on the Green feature. Showtime begins at 6 p.m. The Maitland Middle School Soccer Field at 1901 Choctaw Trail is the venue. Bring your chairs and blankets and we will bring you the stars!
