A CSX freight train approaching the Lake Avenue rail crossing in Maitland didn’t have time to stop before it hit and killed a man lying on the tracks at around 11 p.m. on Wednesday, according to the Maitland Police Department.

The death is being ruled a suicide, said Maitland Deputy Police Chief Bill McEachnie. The man has been identified as an adult resident of Maitland, but his name has not been released.

After some delays on the rails overnight due to the investigation, train traffic is back up to speed.
