Winter Park students win national competition

Three groups of students in the International Baccalaureate program at Winter Park High School won a national competition for the Meritorious Achievement Award from UCF's College of Engineering and Computer Science. By participating in the Internet Science and Technology Fair, students were required to use information technology tools to discover and explore the future of science and engineering while developing science inquiry, communication, information management, and presentation skills. The students spent five months developing ideas for their own products and publishing their research findings in a web page format. The winning groups from Winter Park High School included "No More Fear, a Pacifier to Protect Against SIDS is Here!" by Delaney Haywood, Rachel Helgemoe, Daniel Kalley, Amy LiKamWa, and Katie Varan; "Lifeline" by Lauren Castillo, Daphne Caron, Amanda Gomez, Cliff Panos, and Isabel Vasquez; and "Prevention through Detection" by Clay Bailey, Alicia Cotto, Gillian Miller, Jeff Valisno, and Jana Woo.
