A decade of music in Maitland

The year 2015 is the 10-year anniversary of the Performing Arts of Maitland. To celebrate this important milestone, the Maitland Symphony Orchestra will perform a spring concert on Sunday, June 7. The program includes Shostakovich’s “Festival Overture,” Elgar’s “Nimrod,” music from “Forrest Gump,” “Star Trek through the Ages,” and Schumann Concerto in A Minor.

The free performance begins at 7:30 p.m. and will take place in the sanctuary of Maitland Presbyterian Church, located at 341 N. Orlando Ave. Donations are welcome.

Maitland Public Library 5K is on Saturday

The Maitland Public Library’s annual 5K will be held at 7:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 6. Go to maitlandpl.org to register.

Kings Row Park upgrades underway

Kings Row Park is in the process of getting a makeover. Planned improvements include landscaping, walking paths, playground equipment, a water fountain, and parking spaces. Visit itsmymaitland.com to view the progress we’re making to improve Kings Row Park.

Summer Youth Tennis Camp begins June 8

Summer Youth Tennis Camp runs from 9 a.m. to noon on Monday through Thursday, beginning on June 8 and ending on Aug. 13. Maitland residents pay $110 and non-residents pay $120. Call the Maitland Community Park at 407-539-0042 to register. Please bring a racquet, water, towel, and sunscreen.

Maitland Farmers Market

Include the Maitland Farmers Market in your weekend plans. Visit more than 30 vendors at Lake Lily Park at 701 Lake Lily Drive from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sundays. Musical entertainment is provided by the Performing Arts of Maitland. Don’t forget to bring your reusable market bags to pick up produce, fruit, and baked goods from market vendors.

Senior Center Friday Flicks schedule for June

Each Friday, the Senior Center hosts free movie screenings at 1 p.m. See below or visit itsmymaitland.com for the movie schedule. Seniors are encouraged to sign up in the office prior to Friday.

• June 5: “Horrible Bosses 2”

• June 12: “Sunshine Cleaning”

• June 19: “Begin Again”

• June 26: “The Theory of Everything”

Orange County Extension Class schedule

Four Orange County extension classes are scheduled for the remainder of 2015. The classes are free and meet at the Maitland Community Park.

• July 1: Basics of Vegetable Gardening in Central Florida will run from 2 to 3:30 p.m.

• Aug. 5: Success with Roses goes from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

• Sept. 2: Fall Color with Annuals and Perennials will be from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

• Oct. 7: In Search of the Perfect Tomato class will be from 2 to 3:30 p.m.
