Winter Park family seeks financial help
What began as a Sunday fun-day for Lucas Vertullo, his brother, and their friends quickly became a traumatic experience for Lucas and his family. On Sunday, June 7, Lucas was playing in shallow water at Lori Wilson State Park in Cocoa Beach when a shark bit his lower leg. The injury is severe, though not life threatening. The vascular, nerve, and muscular damage to his leg is extensive and will require multiple surgeries. Lucas also will need physical therapy in order to make a full recovery. Luke’s father, Michael Vertullo, a high school statistics and math teacher works seven days a week. He is the head coach of the Winter Park High School women’s rowing team and continues to teach many individuals in the Orlando community the art of rowing. The medical and therapy costs will continue to mount in the weeks and months ahead and pose a significant financial burden for Lucas’ family. Lucas’ road to recovery is a long one and the family is seeking financial support to aid with the medical and therapy expenses. Visit gofundme.com/vertullofund to donate to the family.
SunRail Summer returns to Park Avenue
Back by popular demand, the Park Avenue Merchants Association, a committee of the Winter Park Chamber of Commerce, announces the return of “Park Avenue’s SunRail Summer,” a promotion aimed at SunRail riders. Effective now through Sept. 30, passengers riding Central Florida’s commuter rail system can show their tickets at participating merchants and receive special perks. Each perk is designed with the idea that riders can offset the cost of an average trip to Winter Park from any of the 11 other origination points along the 32-mile system. Visit experienceparkavenue.com/sunrail for a list of participating merchants.
