MARCH 26

Join the Rollins College Crummer Graduate School of Business as it hosts the Crummer Venture Plan Competition, a competition where participants compete with an idea for a new product or business and develop a plan to introduce it to the marketplace. Finalists will go before a panel of the area’s top entrepreneurial experts to compete for up to $50,000 in start-up funding. The contest will take place in the Rollins College Bush Auditorium on March 26 from 6 to 9 p.m. The public is invited to attend and admission is free. Visit rollins.edu/vpc

Calling anyone with a creative vision and competitive spirit to get their wheels turning and engineering minds geared up for Canstruction’s 22nd year of teams designing structures from canned food all for the Second Harvest Food Bank. This year’s kickoff event, located at the Orlando Fashion Square in the Strike Out bowling alley, will be an on March 26 at 6:30 p.m. to learn about the theme and to create a team in preparation for the big event in October. The engineering artists use non-perishable food items such as soup cans, boxes of spaghetti and bags of rice to create masterpieces. All products will be donated to Second Harvest for its pantries, soup kitchens, homeless shelters, senior programs, and low-income day care centers. The Christian Service Center is taking a swing to knock out hunger on Friday, March 27, at 8:30 a.m. with their inaugural golf tournament at the Dubsdread golf course in downtown Orlando. The Take a Swing against Hunger Golf tournament is designed for the benefit of the Center’s neighbors in the Parramore district who are struggling with hunger, homelessness, or other similar crises. On Friday, March 27, the Goldenrod Historical Society will welcome Frank Attwood to the Goldenrod Station for a rendition of his famous Thomas Edison re-enactment. The sixth annual Hannibal Square Heritage Center Folk & Urban Art Festival will be Saturday, March 28, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Hannibal Square Heritage Center. The annual festival celebrates the works of more than 25 artists, including members of the original Florida Highwaymen and the B-Side Artists collective. A highlight will be the creation of a lifecast by exhibiting Crealdé artist Riboberto Torres of Richard Hall, Hannibal Square hero and Tuskegee Airman. Featured music will include the Porchdogs Cajun and Zydeco Band and Orisi Risi African Folklore. A “kid-folk” workshop will offer The Aztec Encounter and Musical parade. Food truck fare will also be available.

The 2015 Dogs Making a Difference Walkathon will be Saturday, March 28, at Harbor Park beginning at 8:30 a.m. Looking for something fun to do with the whole family, including the family dog? Come out to the Southeastern Guide Dogs' Walkathon! It will be a morning filled with friends, fun, food, music, shopping and, of course, a lot of dogs. A book signing for “What is the Electric Car?” will be hosted at the Winter Park Library on March 28 with almost a dozen electric vehicles on display including electric motorcycles, a solar powered experimental car, and some of the brand new 2015 model electric cars. The event will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. with a preview of the film trailer and a Q&A panel featuring several of the book’s authors. Admission is free. Sunday March 29 is Be My Neighbor Day in Winter Park. The Winter Park History Museum presents this fun event honoring the life of Mister Rogers. Activities for children ages 2 to 6 years old will include crafts, family entertainment and a special meet and greet with Daniel Tiger. The event will run from noon to 3 p.m. in Central Park. MARCH 30

Join Taiwanese-American pianist Helen Huang, from the Juilliard School faculty, for a Piano Master Class at Rollins College on March 30. Huang is a remarkable soloist and chamber music player and has performed with orchestras such as the New York Philharmonic, the Orchestre National de France and the Berlin Philharmonic. The Department of Music will offer the course for free at Tiedtke Concert Hall at Rollins College at 5:30 p.m. and it is open to the public.

MARCH 31

The Rollins College Department of Music presents a faculty recital featuring light lyric soprano Arisa Kusumi accompanied by pianist Helen Huang on March 31. The event will begin at 7:30 p.m. in Tiedtke Concert Hall at Rollins College. Kusumi is an internationally acclaimed soprano and has made appearances at the San Francisco Opera Center, and the Robert Schumann Philharmonic. Performing works by Mozart, Schumann, and Grieg. The Morse Museum will be hosting an open house the weekend of Easter. Admission is free. APRIL 4

Presented by the city of Winter Park, the 61st annual Easter Egg Hunt in Central Park on Saturday, April 4, will provide as much excitement and laughs for adults as it will for youngsters. Children up to 10 years of age can begin lining up at 9:30 a.m. The hunt will begin promptly at 10 a.m. Children with special needs are also encouraged to join in the fun. Over 10,000 eggs will be placed throughout Central Park. As always, children who come up empty handed will still be able to enjoy special treats at the designated candy area. APRIL 5

Come kick off the spring season at The Hannibal Square EasterFest and Parade on Sunday, April 5. Parade entertainment will include springtime floats, five horse drawn carriages, several equestrian groups, professional dance companies, church choirs, a celebrity Grand Marshal, local high school marching bands and, of course, the Easter Bunny. Live entertainment will take place on Hannibal Square’s Shady Park Amphitheater from noon to 4:30 p.m. The Easter Bunny will be stationed in the park’s gazebo for photos with kids from 3 to 4:30 p.m.

APRIL 12

Enjoy an Ice Cream Social to benefit Ronald McDonald House Charities of Central Florida from 1 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, April 12, at the Winter Park Civic Center, located at 1050 W. Morse Blvd. in Winter Park. Cost is $6 in advance and $8 at the door. Tickets are available at both Ronald McDonald Houses and from the Friends of RMHCCF Steering Committee.
