Winter Park receives five-bloom rating

Top honors for the prestigious 2015 America in Bloom national awards program were announced at the annual awards held in Holland, Mich. on Sept. 26. All participants were evaluated on six criteria: overall impression, environmental awareness, heritage preservation, urban forestry, landscape, and floral displays. Additionally they were judged on their community involvement across municipal, residential, and commercial sectors. America in Bloom is the only national awards program that sends specially trained judges to personally visit participants. In addition, each participant receives a detailed written evaluation that can be used as a guide to future improvements.

Winter Park received a perfect five-bloom rating. In addition, they received a special mention for their efforts in heritage preservation and an outstanding achievement award for overall impression.

Winter Park Distilling Company announces expansion

The co-founders of the Winter Park Distilling Company last week unveiled expansion plans that will combine a craft distillery, brewery, taproom and retail showroom all at a new location in the city of Winter Park. Dubbed the “Brewstillery,” this new concept will be the first-of-its-kind in the state of Florida and will be open to the public as well as feature regular tours on a daily basis. Housed within the refurbished and redesigned State Auto Body building on Orange Avenue, north of highway U.S. Highway 17-92, the Brewstillery will be the latest addition to the eclectic mix of businesses that line this gateway to the city of Winter Park.
