Coyotes Forum scheduled
Every state in the union, with the exception of Hawaii, has a coyote presence. Florida is no exception. Unfortunately, there have been a few sightings in the Maitland area. Here are a few tips from the FWC-UF/IFAS publication, “A Guide to Living with Urban Coyotes”:
Keep your dogs on a short leash and keep cats indoors.
Secure trash and don’t place food outdoors that will attract wild animals.
Close off crawl spaces under porches and sheds.
A soft copy is available on itsmymaitland.com and hard copies are available on the brochure rack in the lobby of City Hall. Contact Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission at 863-648-3200 for more information or to report a coyote problem. Direct link: http://bit.ly/FWCpubUrbanCoyotes
Additionally, the city of Maitland and the FWC will host a coyote forum on Monday, Oct. 5. Two representatives from the FWC will share their knowledge on coyotes and answer questions. Light refreshments will be served. The event starts at 6:30 p.m. and will be held at the City Council Chambers at 1776 Independence Lane.
