Planning for Maitland’s downtown

On Monday, the Community Redevelopment Agency Board and Community Redevelopment Agency Advisory Board met for an hour-long, lunchtime workshop.

The discussion item was the Downtown Master Plan update. The city’s consultant for the planning side of the downtown master plan update, GAI Community Solutions Group, initiated the workshop to ask the City Council, CRA Board, and CRA Advisory Board to share their vision for Maitland’s future downtown. GAI is conducting seven focus group interviews, and Monday’s workshop was a focus group for the City Council, CRA Board, and CRAAB. The following items were discussed:

A community gathering place

A comprehensive update to Maitland’s existing zoning rules

Connectivity

Retail

Safety

As for next steps, GAI will conduct focus group interviews with the following groups:

City staff

Downtown business owners

Downtown property owners

Homeowner association groups

Maitland Downtown Partnership

Planning & Zoning Commission

Stay tuned for more updates as they come. Check itsmymaitland.com for notices of upcoming meetings or subscribe to the city’s e-newsletter, Maitland Minute, at http://bit.ly/MaitlandMinute, for updates.
