Come join the Central Florida Community Arts’ Summer Classical Choir as they proudly perform Handel’s “Messiah.” Delight in some of the best-known choral works from the Baroque era, including the “Hallelujah” chorus. The CFCArts presentation of “Messiah,” utilizing its 80-voice classical choir and full symphony orchestra, is something you do not want to miss! Handel’s “Messiah” will be held on Thursday, Aug. 4, and Friday, Aug. 5, at 7:30 p.m. at Maitland Presbyterian Church. Advanced purchase general admission tickets are $10. Come out to the Writer’s Block Bookstore for “Wine & Conversation with Bob Kealing” on Aug. 4 at 7 p.m. Kealing is a four-time Emmy Award-winning journalist based in Orlando with WESH-TV who wrote the book “Life of the Party.” This book tells the incredible story of a Southern single mother who became an American business icon, and is currently in development with Sony Pictures with Sandra Bullock attached to star.

A seminar titled “How to Survive Your Role as Caregiver” will run from 10 a.m. to noon on Friday, Aug. 5, at Reeves United Methodist Church, located at 1100 N. Ferncreek Ave. in Orlando. Thirty-three participating Orlando area Panera Bread bakery-cafes will be hosting lemonade stands to raise money for New Hope for Kids on Friday, Aug. 5, and Saturday, Aug. 6. From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. children and supporters of New Hope for Kids will be asking customers to donate $1 or more to receive a refreshing sample of lemonade. Guests will be served from lemonade stands built and decorated by Panera Bread associates.

AUG. 6

The Eva Weingarten Band will have their final show on Saturday, Aug. 6, from 8 to 11 p.m. at Hannibal’s on the Square, 533 W. New England Ave. Keyboardist Joseph Grabosky will be leaving the band to join the Air Force, while Eva will focus on her schooling and writing original music. Go rock with them one last time. They will also play jazz, pop and blues. Reservations are highly recommended and can be made on OpenTable.

Join the author of “Lists for Living, Lists for Life,” Myrna Ossin, on Sunday, Aug. 7 at 1:30 p.m., at the Maitland Public Library. “Lists for Living, Lists for Life” is the definitive list book for those who want to streamline their lives. It contains 145 lists, covering almost every aspect of organizing daily life. For the second part of this three-part series, Ossin will discuss remedies that heal from the kitchen. There will be a demonstration on testing allergies to foods or drugs.

A seminar on planning for long-term health care problems of the elders will start at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 7, at HSCF Community Hall, located at 1994 E. Lake Drive in Casselberry. RSVP by Wednesday, Aug. 3. The program will include a presentation from John Buschle of Protective Life Insurance Co. and Chet Tokar of Edward Jones regarding planning for long-term health care. Join VITAS Healthcare, the nation’s leading provider of end-of-life care, as it honors local World War II veterans while commemorating the 71st anniversary of the end of WWII at the Winter Park Civic Center, 1050 W. Morse Blvd. in Winter Park, on Thursday, Aug. 11 from 9:30 to 11 a.m. The event will feature a patriotic musical salute by soloist Charles Haugabrooks, a USO show by The Orlando Big Band and Lt. Gen. Serving the Health Insurance Needs of Elders (SHINE) of Orange, Osceola and Seminole is seeking counselor volunteers. SHINE is an award winning, statewide volunteer program that provides free, unbiased counseling and information for people on Medicare, their families and caregivers. Central Florida’s most distinguished chefs will join forces from 6:45 to 10 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 27, at the Orlando World Center Marriot, 8701 World Center Drive, to help fight the nation’s childhood hunger epidemic at Orlando's Taste of the Nation for No Kid Hungry. Forty-two of the area’s most accomplished chefs will showcase tasting portions of signature dishes, accompanied by fine wines, craft beers and specialty cocktails. Get a haircut, and give one to someone in need. Hair Cuttery, the largest family-owned and operated chain of hair salons in the country, will be donating back-to-school haircuts to children who need it most this summer. Through Aug. 15, for every child up to age 18 who purchases a haircut at one of Hair Cuttery’s nearly 900 salons, one free haircut certificate will be donated to a disadvantaged child in the community. Hair Cuttery has 19 locations in Orlando and three in Winter Park.
