City Council recap

The City Council met on Monday, Aug. 8.

Three presentations were scheduled:

• Presentation of Welcome Certificate to Group 10 Financial

A public hearing was scheduled:

• Ordinance – Lease Renewal of Maitland Area Chamber of Commerce

The consent agenda was approved as presented:

• Approval of the City Council meeting minutes of July 25, 2016

• Approval of the Cultural Partners Workshop meeting minutes of July 20, 2016

• Approval of the Maitland Library Budget Workshop meeting minutes of July 25, 2016

• Fiscal Year 2016 Road Resurfacing – piggy back Orange County contract #Y16-176-A Hubbard Construction Company

• Resolution # 32-2016 – Ad Hoc Public Arts Committee

Decision items included:

• Petition No. 2016-02 (PCU) 331 Lake Avenue – Celandine Life – Preparatory Academy

• Petition No. 2016-02 (SUB) - Serendipity Park (Gamewell Avenue)

• Approval of the Maitland Library Carryforward

• Fiscal Year 2017 contribution requests from non-profits. The requests did not carry.

The next City Council meeting is Monday, Aug. 22. During the Aug. 22 meeting, the City Council is expected to set the stormwater rate.

Aug. 30 primary election

Maitland City Hall will not be a polling place for the Aug. 30 primary election. Below are the locations for Maitland voters. The polls will be open from 7 a.m. through 7 p.m.

The precinct location for precinct 513 is King of Kings Lutheran Church, 1101 Wymore Road, Maitland.

The precinct location for precinct 514 is Asbury United Methodist Church at 220 W. Horatio Ave., Maitland.

The precinct location for precinct 515 is First Baptist Church of Maitland at 1950 Mohican Trail, Maitland.

The precinct location for precinct numbers 546 and 547 is Riverside Baptist Church at 7719 Forest City Road, Orlando.

Early voting will be held at Maitland Community Park, 1400 Mayo Ave., from 10 a.m. through 7 p.m. starting Monday, Aug.15, and ending Sunday, Aug. 28.

Tennis, anyone?

A new session of tennis instruction begins on Aug. 15. Classes for youths are offered on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. Classes for adult tennis instruction are offered on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. Spots are filling up fast. Call the Maitland Community Park at 407-539-0042 to reserve your spot today.

The Parks & Recreation Department announces "Interior Design Basics," a four-part class hosted by licensed interior designer Donna Pennella. By the end of the class you will have the tools you need to solve design challenges and make your dream room a reality.

The class meets on Sept. 14, Sept. 28, Oct. 5, and Oct. 12 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. The investment in your education is $150. Individuals with questions are encouraged to email [email protected].
