Construction to impact travel to Saturday Farmers’ Market

On Friday, Feb. 19, at 8 p.m., New York and Lyman avenues improvements will continue, which includes replacement of the railroad tracks, as well as demolition, rebuilding, and resurfacing of the existing rough railroad crossing to create a smoother road surface. Both the railroad crossing and intersection will be closed to vehicular and pedestrian traffic, and is expected to reopen Sunday, Feb. 21, at approximately 11 p.m.

This closure will impact the pedestrian and vehicular traffic during the Saturday, Feb. 20, Winter Park Farmers’ Market. Attendees are asked to follow the detour signs that will direct vehicular and pedestrian traffic to and from the market during this time.

The city continually strives to minimize inconvenience to local residents and through traffic during construction. We appreciate your patience and cooperation during this important project. For additional information, please contact the Public Works Department at 407-599-3262.

Golf course to close for renovations

Included in the fiscal year 2016 budget is the funding of $1.2 million to renovate the Winter Park golf course. The City Commission approved this funding based upon the research and recommendation of an appointed seven-member Golf Course Strategic Plan Task Force, formed in November 2014, to study the needs of our 101-year-old course.

During the yearlong process, the task force held 29 meetings and spent many hours evaluating our course while researching others. This information helped formulate the recommendation to the City Commission in July 2015 to renovate the nine-hole golf course that would include the redesign and rebuilding of the greens, tees and fairways, replacement of the existing grass, and the installation of a completely new irrigation system.

The city issued a formal solicitation at the end of September 2015 and six responses were received. After careful review and presentations, KCR Contracting, LLC was awarded the design/build contract for this project in November.

The Winter Park golf course will close Tuesday, March 1, 2016, for improvements, which will take approximately six months. For more information, please visit cityofwinterpark.org/golfnew.
