FDOT's closure of southbound U.S. 17-92 restarts this weekend
Plan to use U.S. Highway 17-92 on Friday night and throughout the weekend? The temporary continuous closure will restart on Friday, Feb. 19, through Monday, Feb. 22. The closure of southbound U.S. Highway 17-92 under the train trestle will restart at 7 p.m. on Friday night.
Motorists will be able to patronize local businesses located between Lake Avenue and Monroe Avenue during these two sets of closures.

Screen on the Green returns this spring
The return of spring brings with it the return of Screen on the Green at the Maitland Middle School Soccer Field. Save the dates:

Brief recap of Feb. 8 City Council meeting
The public hearing for Ordinance - Petition No. 2015-14 (AZ) (PD) 511 Maitland Boulevard (Maitland Concourse North) continued on Feb. 8. No vote was taken. This item will be continued at the Feb. 22 meeting.
The City Council also authorized the city manager to sign revised contracts with IMMO Maitland, LLC, and RUELJO, LLC, to purchase the necessary rights-of-way to extend Independence Lane from Horatio Avenue to George Avenue. The authorization was contingent upon the property-exchange agreement, and the property-exchange agreement was approved at Monday's meeting.

Fire Rescue Fire Prevention Poster Contest
Earlier this month, the fire department visited Lake Sybelia Elementary to award several students prizes for participating in a fire prevention poster contest. Students in three grade categories (K-1, 2-3 and 3-4), created posters to illustrate the 2015-2016 fire safety theme “Hear the Beep Where You Sleep”. First and second place winners were awarded a certificate and art supplies. The winning posters are on display at the first floor lobby at City Hall.
