The new year will bring a number of construction projects in the downtown Maitland area, specifically Horatio Avenue between Maitland Avenue, U.S. Highway 17-92, and Independence Lane. The construction projects will impact traffic in the downtown Maitland area, especially on Horatio Avenue.
The public and private projects expected to be underway over the next few years include downtown utilities upgrades, electric undergrounding, Independence Lane extension, Independence Lane Festival Street, and construction of Maitland City Centre. Horatio Avenue, between U.S. 17-92 and Maitland Avenue:
The five projects list above will impact this nearly 600-feet stretch of Horatio Avenue.
It is advisable for motorists to avoid Independence Lane and Horatio Avenue between Maitland Avenue and U.S. 17-92 during these construction projects.

Motorists are encouraged to take alternate routes to points east and west. See link to interactive Google Map and narrative below.
Alternate Routes:
Heading West:
Follow the red arrows placed on the Google Map. For those who normally use Horatio Avenue to Maitland Avenue and points west, the alternate routes would include:
Turn right onto Sybelia Parkway from Horatio Avenue. Take Sybelia Parkway to 17-92.
To access Maitland Boulevard turn right onto 17-92 and access the Maitland Boulevard on-ramp just past Mayo Avenue.
To access locations on Maitland Avenue or Sandspur Road, continue straight across 17-92 onto Sybelia Avenue.
Heading east:
Follow the green arrows placed on the Google Map. For those who normally use Maitland Avenue to Horatio and points east, the alternate routes would include:
From Maitland Boulevard, continue past Maitland Avenue, bearing right onto the Maitland Boulevard off ramp. There are two right hand turn lanes at 17-92. Proceed south on 17-92 to the Horatio Avenue intersection, entering one of the two left hand turn lanes onto eastbound Horatio.
From Maitland Avenue north of Maitland Boulevard, take a left onto Maitland Boulevard and turn right onto the Maitland Boulevard off ramp. There are two right hand turn lanes at 17-92. Proceed south on 17-92 to the Horatio Avenue intersection, entering one of the two left hand turn lanes onto eastbound Horatio.
From Sandspur Road, take a right onto Maitland Avenue heading south and take the first left onto Sybelia Avenue. At 17-92 take a right and enter one of the two left hand turn lanes onto eastbound Horatio.
