Be aware of closed roads
A stretch of southbound U.S. Highway 17-92 will close for two consecutive long weekends.
Last week, FDOT announced a temporary road closure of southbound U.S. Highway 17-92 between Lake Avenue and Lee Road to through traffic for two consecutive long weekends. The work was scheduled to start this weekend, but has been pushed back due to weather. Construction schedule updates will be posted to CFLRoads.com. Motorists will be able to access local businesses located between Lake Avenue and North Park Avenue during these two weekends.
Detour route signage will be placed at key locations along southbound U.S. Highway 17-92.
Option 1: Motorists traveling southbound on U.S. Highway 17-92 will make a right turn onto Maitland Boulevard, take the I-4 westbound ramp onto I-4 westbound, exit at Exit 88 for State Road 423 (Lee Road), take a left onto Lee Road, and make a right turn onto southbound U.S. Highway 17-92. Vote early at Maitland Community Park
A General Municipal Election, coinciding with the Presidential Preference Primary, will be held on Tuesday, March 15, to fill City Council Seat #1. If a run-off election is necessary, it will be held on Tuesday, April 12. Those elected will serve three-year terms.
Early voting will be held at the Maitland Community Park, 1400 Mayo Ave., from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. starting on Monday, Feb. 29, and ending on March 13.
The polls for the March 15 Election and Primary will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Polling locations are forthcoming.
Voter registration application forms are available at City Hall for all non-registered voters. The deadline to register to vote or to change party affiliation is on Feb. 15.

Quiet zone update
On June 8, the City Council approved a resolution to authorize the city to enter into agreements with the Florida Department of Transportation for Quiet Zone improvements. FDOT will issue an RFP for the construction of quad gates for Maitland’s eight crossings.
Free blood sugar event for seniors
The city of Maitland Senior Center will host a free blood sugar health screening, provided by the Rehabilitation Center of Winter Park. The event is scheduled for Wednesday, Jan. 27 from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Maitland Senior Center at 345 S. Maitland Ave. First come first served. Free event for seniors ages 55 and older.
