Independence Lane extension update
During its Jan. 25 meeting, the Maitland City Council authorized the city manager to sign contracts with IMMO Maitland, LLC, and RUELJO, LLC, to purchase the necessary rights-of-way to extend Independence Lane from Horatio Avenue to George Avenue.
The City Council initially approved the purchase at a Nov. 30, 2015, special meeting. After the special meeting, the city attorney worked with the appropriate parties to draw up the agreements for the sale and purchase with IMMO Maitland, LLC, and RUELJO, LLC.
Parks Master Plan nearing completion
Following months of information gathering, Maitland will soon have a new vision for the Parks and Recreation system within its borders. The planning firms of GreenPlay, LLC and Tindale-Oliver have developed a draft Parks and Recreation Master Plan that will be released and posted on the city of Maitland website on Friday, Jan. 29. Residents may review this plan by visiting itsmymailand.com under the “Parks and Recreation Plan Update” link.
Input regarding this draft master plan is welcomed and encouraged. Email comments may be forwarded to Debbie Zaravelis at [email protected] and should be received no later than Feb. 18. There will also be several public meetings regarding the draft master plan including a meeting on Feb. 2 at 6:30 p.m. at the Maitland Community Park and again on Feb. 3 at 6:30 p.m. at Maitland City Hall. These meetings will review the master plan process to date, review components included within the plan draft, identify feedback deadlines, as well as receive public input. In addition, the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board will hold a workshop on the draft Parks and Recreation Master Plan on Feb.10 at 6 p.m.
The Parks and Recreation Master Plan is designed to determine how the city’s parks facilities and programs can be updated, expanded and improved to meet the community’s current and future needs. Information to be utilized as part of this plan has been gathered during much of the 2015 calendar year through public input meetings, a community interest survey and an inventory analysis.
The Maitland City Council could adopt a final plan in March 2016. For more information, please visit itsmymaitland.com and click on the link to the 2015 Parks and Recreation Master Plan Update or contact Parks and Recreation Director Jay Conn at 407-539-6264 or [email protected].
