New Maitland Boulevard traffic pattern underway

Motorists on eastbound Maitland Boulevard will soon experience a major traffic pattern shift that will affect how motorists access the westbound Interstate 4 ramp. In addition, existing eastbound lanes will turn into a work zone and eastbound traffic will shift to new lanes on the south side of the roadway. The new traffic pattern, approximately 1.25 miles in length, will affect motorists traveling between State Road 434 and Interstate 4.

Currently, motorists can choose to access the westbound I-4 ramp after the intersection of Maitland Boulevard and Lake Destiny Road. With this new pattern, motorists will have to make the decision to approach the I-4 ramp at the Keller Road intersection, almost a half mile before the Lake Destiny Road intersection. The on-ramp to westbound I-4 will literally be separated from eastbound traffic lanes – the physical structure of the ramp will begin just after the Lake Destiny Road intersection.

Residents, commuters, and motorists coming from northern Lake Destiny Road hoping to approach the westbound I-4 ramp will just have to make a wider turn within the intersection to get on the ramp.

Approximately 74,000 motorists travel through the Lake Destiny Road intersection each day. Eight traffic patterns are scheduled for the Maitland Boulevard corridor; the new pattern is the second. The I-4 Ultimate team told the city of Maitland in a Facebook Live video that residents and motorists can expect the second traffic pattern to last for "at least a year, maybe longer."
