The Fresh Market will celebrate the 22nd anniversary of its annual “Hope Floats” Sidewalk Sale June 3-5, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily to benefit JDRF, the leading global organization funding type 1 diabetes research. Each of The Fresh Market’s 175 stores will offer hot dogs, root beer floats and ice cream sundaes (regular and sugar-free), each for a $2 donation. The Fresh Market will donate 100 percent of the funds raised over the three-day sale directly to JDRF to support its research efforts. In addition to the Sidewalk Sale, The Fresh Market is hosting a JDRF Sneaker Sale campaign from now through June 5. Orange County encourages residents to take steps to be prepared for this year’s hurricane season. The 2016 Hurricane Expo will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, June 4, at the Renaissance Senior Center, located at 3800 South Econlockhatchee Trail. At this free, one-day event, attendees will learn from emergency response and recovery experts from the Florida Division of Emergency Management. Representatives will answer questions and provide information on how to survive and deal with floods, high wind damage and property loss. For more information, call 407-836-9140.

Make your pet a star by heading to Woof Gang Bakery & Grooming in Winter Park, at 918 Orange Ave., from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 4. Photographers will be posing pets for photos to be showcased at Chuy’s Tex-Mex restaurant, which will be located across from Trader Joe’s in Winter Park when it opens July 19. Pet owners can have their furry friends photographed, and the dogs’ framed photos will be featured in the new restaurant’s famous La Chihuahua Bar. Participating pups’ parents are encouraged to make a suggested donation of $5. All donations will support Orange County Animal Services. Attendees who support the cause will receive a coupon for a free appetizer and koozie. All four-legged models may enjoy homemade treats from Woof Gang Bakery & Grooming, the event host. Three infectious disease physicians will discuss the cause, prevention, effects and treatment of the Zika virus at the Bush Auditorium, located on the Rollins College campus, on Monday, June 6, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. The Zika Virus: What You Need to Know forum will help residents of the greater Central Florida community to understand the history, biology and spreading of Zika and how to stay safe. The Winter Park Public Library has been selected by the prestigious Aspen Institute as one of five libraries in the U.S. to be a site for its Dialogue on Public Libraries, a series of forums to explore and champion new thinking on U.S. public libraries. The community conversation will be Wednesday, June 8 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the University Club of Winter Park, 841 N. Park Ave., and is open to the public. Attendees will learn more about libraries in the digital age. The Community Conversation will be followed by a June 9 meeting of a community steering committee that will discuss the role of the library in meeting the changing needs of individuals and to share thoughts about their own needs and interests in the context of technological, educational, economic and social transformations. The information gathered from these sessions will be paired with that of other libraries around the country as part of the Aspen Institute’s efforts to identify, gather and showcase stories of library transformations around the country.
