Join us for coffee and conversation at the next Parkside Chat

The Parkside Chat series returns on Wednesday, Sept. 7. Councilwoman Joy Goff-Marcil is hosting. Each session is held at the Maitland Community Park on the first Wednesday of most months from 8 to 9 a.m.

The Parkside Chats series provides residents opportunities to ask questions and dialogue with a member of the City Council in a small group setting. Coffee is provided.

Two new portals for information access

There are two new portals to access current and historical city records.

The first portal is a library of City Council meeting minutes going back to 1924, ordinances going back to the year 2000, and resolutions going back to the year 2000. Keyword search is available. Check it out at http://bit.ly/HistoryArchive

The second portal is a compendium for agendas, agenda backup, and minutes going back decades. The agenda itself is a dynamic page full of links to greensheets, minutes, documents, and exhibits.

Agenda items are linked to the corresponding greensheet or document. Before this new portal, a person would have to download the entire agenda backup packet (which could be a couple hundred pages), and scroll through the document to find the greensheet or document of interest. Agenda backup packets are still available for download. Click on to http://bit.ly/AgendaPortal to check it out.

Drive sober or get pulled over

The Maitland Police Department will join 10,000 law enforcement agencies nationwide to participate in the “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign, which runs now through Sept. 5.

MPD officers on patrol will aggressively look for all impaired drivers during the campaign and will arrest anyone they find driving while impaired.

The Maitland Police Department recommends the following tips:

• Plan a safe way home before the festivities begin

• Designate a sober driver before drinking

• Use an alternative form of transportation if someone finds themselves impaired

• Contact the police immediately if you see a drunken driver on the road.

Need an alternative mode of transportation? Try Uber. The city will pay 20 percent of Uber fares within in Maitland proper and 25 percent of fares of trips involving the Maitland SunRail Station. Learn more at www.itsmymaitland/Uber
