JAN. 26

It’s a night of networking, hors d’oeuvres, wine and winning at the Ovations Awards. Each year the Winter Park Chamber of Commerce, Park Avenue Merchants Association and Winter Park/Maitland Observer celebrate the local businesses and organizations that make our community so exceptional through the annual Ovations Awards. Thursday, Jan. 26 we find out who the community has voted the “best of” for dining, shopping, business services, arts and culture and health and wellness via an online poll. Come out from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Rachel D. Murrah Civic Center at 1050 W. Morse Blvd. in Winter Park for a fun evening celebrating the Winter Park area’s best. Visit winterpark.org for more information and for tickets ranging from $10-15.

Our world today is divided, bifurcated between the zero-sum binaries of win/lose, good and evil, either/or, profane and holy. Franciscan activist Richard Rohr invites us to see beyond these social entrapments toward the beauty of paradox, a hopeful horizon of unitive consciousness where everything belongs, at the Gladdening Light Symposium 2017. He will be joined by Haitian surrealist painter Frantz Zephirin. It will begin with an opening reception Jan. 26 at 6 p.m. and will run through Jan. 29. All events will occur within close proximity to downtown Winter Park and Rollins College. The cost is $330 for the entire weekend, although some lectures are priced separately. The Ó Súil-leabháin brothers will give a free performance Saturday at 8 p.m. in Tiedtke Concert Hall on the Rollins College campus. For a complete schedule of events and registration details, call 407-647-3963 or visit gladdeninglight.org
