Gator kills dog in Winter Garden

A woman was walking her dogs July 8 when one got too close to the water.

An alligator estimated to be 12 feet long attacked and killed a dog while it was walking with its owner July 8 along the Lulu Creek Trail in Winter Garden.

According to a Facebook post by Jeff Dyal, the dog was chasing ducks by a pond near the West Orange Trail when the attacked occurred. The woman and her other dog were not injured.

Dyal said the alligator was trapped and euthanized because “it was a direct threat to the community.”
