In an effort to ensure students continue to receive nutritious meals during the summer, Orange County Public Schools’ Food and Nutrition Services Department will serve breakfast and lunch at no charge to all children 18 years and younger attending summer school and will hold curbside meal distributions at select schools.
Summer curbside meal distributions begin Monday, June 7, at 66 schools — including 11 in West Orange County — from 3 to 6 p.m. Each student will receive a weeks’ worth of meals, providing a total of seven days of breakfast and lunch.
In West Orange County, food can be picked up at Frangus and Maxey elementaries; Gotha, Horizon West, Lakeview, Ocoee or SunRidge middle schools; and Dr. Phillips, Olympia, West Orange and Windermere high schools.
While schools are closed in observance of the July 4 holiday from July 1 through 9, students will be provided meals for that week on July 1 at two local school sites — Maxey Elementary and Windermere High — between 8 and 10 a.m. or while supplies last.
Lunch also is being made available at six Orange County libraries. The closest one to West Orange County is the Hiawassee branch, 7391 W. Colonial Drive, Orlando. Meals are given out from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
