Winter Garden Little League remembered Long Island Little League Player Lazar LaPenna, 10, Monday, May 9, as LaPenna’s jersey number also, 9.
Lazar LaPenna was only 10 years old when he passed away unexpectedly during a game Friday, April 29.
WGLL Board of Directors Secretary Celeste Carr said the board read about the event online and felt “extremely compelled to do something. Our children live to play baseball and the family bonds are life changing between the families over the years.”
Nine percent of the evening’s concession stand profits were donated to LaPenna’s family.
“Having a son the same age made this an emotional journey for myself and the board” Carr added.
The players also placed their bats outside of the dugouts, along the fence, in LaPenna’s honor.
