Rising junior Alex Nichols, Foundation Academy boys basketball’s leader in points, rebounds, assists and steals per game in 2024-25, has announced he will be transferring to prestigious hoops prep school Oak Hill Academy in Virginia.

"I am super excited to play at a program like Oak Hill Academy, given the reputation they have built over many years," Nichols said. "They have produced amazing talent and very successful players. I am proud to have an opportunity to represent such an outstanding program."

The announcement comes after the 6-foot-2 combo guard put together a breakout sophomore campaign for the Lions, averaging 18.2 points, 6.6 rebounds, 4.4 assists and 2.1 steals per game on a ludicrous 42% clip from three-point land. Nichols’ performance on the court last season not only earned him a spot at the powerhouse program but he was also named the FACA Class 2A, District 11 Player of the Year and selected to the All-Orange Observer Second Team.

"What made me (choose to) go to Oak Hill was the opportunity to play at a larger basketball program with a very successful coach in B.J. Jackson," he said. "The resources Oak Hill provides (were also big factors), specifically giving me the ability to be in the gym as much as I need, to continue to get better every day. When I went to visit, President Micah Kurtz and Mr. (Mike) Rodgers made me feel very welcome."

Despite leaving Foundation, Nichols appreciates the time and relationships he built on the basketball team and at the school.

"I really appreciate, as a program inside and out of basketball, how (Foundation) welcomed me with open arms, immediately making me feel at home," he said. "The friendships I made at Foundation are so special and I hope they will last a lifetime. I was so blessed to be able to step on the court with my teammates every day. Their dedication and work ethic were above and beyond. ... To the coaching staff at Foundation, none of my accolades last year would have been possible if you hadn't believed in me and trusted me the way you did ... I am beyond grateful to have played under you all and will always remember the amazing memories we all made throughout the year. Thank you so much for all the opportunities and all that you have taught me."
