For the first time in Windermere High softball’s program history, it will have someone other than Eileen Hannigan running the show, as the school has announced the hiring of Ken Janata as the vaunted program’s next coach.
Janata comes to Windermere after spending the last two seasons as coach of the Lyman Lady Greyhounds. Prior to his time at the Seminole County school, he served as an assistant coach at Montverde Academy for two seasons, helping the Eagles win the Class 3A, Region 2 championship in 2023.
The announcement comes as Hannigan left to take over as the next coach at Lake Brantley High in Seminole County. In her eight seasons leading the Wolverines she accumulated a total record of 135-56, never had a losing season, won four district championships and claimed the Class 7A, Region 2 championship in 2024.
However, following the program’s best finish in 2024, Janata will take over the Wolverines after a difficult season. In 2025, Windermere finished with a record of 14-12, its worst since the program’s debut season in 2018.
