Dr. Phillips High offensive lineman R.J. Stamm, a 6-foot-5, 285-pound tackle, has announced he will be heading to New York to play college ball in the Patriot League at Colgate University.
“Blessed and grateful to announce my commitment to continue my athletic and academic career at Colgate University,” Stamm wrote in a post to his X account. “Thank you for the opportunity Coach (Curt) Fitzpatrick, Coach (Joe) Gerbino, Coach (Patrick) Rotchford and Coach (Dalton) McCrann. Thank you to my family, coaches and all the schools who have believed in me!”
Stamm, a two-year returning starter for the Panthers football team, chose the Raiders over offers from Yale, Temple, Furman and nearby Stetson. This commitment marks the second area big-time offensive lineman to call the liberal arts college their football home, joining The First Academy’s Gerard Gearity.
However, before Stamm shifts his focus to Raiders football, his Panthers are expecting him to be a big-time player and leader for their big guys up front.
“We’re expecting a lot from guys like R.J.,” said offensive coordinator Tyrone Sapp. “He’s going to be a third-year starter — who played 14 games for us last year — and because of that experience we know he has the leadership needed to guide our offensive line.”
