The Ocoee Police Department is warning residents of "grandparent" scams.

These scams target the elderly, where scammers pretend to be their grandchildren claiming to be in trouble.

Some claims include being arrested, involved in an accident, and urgently needing money.

The police department released warning signs, including:

  • Caller sounding emotional or in distress.
  • A fake attorney demanding bond money.
  • Insisting on secrecy.
  • Pressuring for quick money, either through wire transfers, gift cards or crypto.

To protect yourself, Ocoee Police says to be cautious of unsolicited phone calls or messages, verify the story by calling your grandchildren or their parents directly and to never send money or personal information over the phone.
