After more than 35 years serving in Orange County Public Schools, Deputy Superintendent Mike Armbruster is saying goodbye.

Superintendent Dr. Maria Vazquez recognized Armbruster for his service during the Orange County School Board meeting Tuesday, Dec. 9.

He started his career with OCPS as a teacher and coach.

He went on to become principal of West Orange High and later opened Ocoee High, where he introduced the "house system."

Armbruster is a national leader in career and technical education. He unified technical centers under Orange Technical College, expanded CTE and dual enrollment, and ensured every high school has a career specialist.

According to OCPS, "his vision drove new workforce programs, facilities and agricultural education across" the district."

Armbruster initially retired in 2020 after 33 years with the district, but he returned to OCPS in 2022 to serve as deputy superintendent and report directly to Vazquez.
