West Orange High rising senior Devonte Anderson, a three-star college football prospect, has announced his commitment to play at the University of Louisville, choosing the Cardinals over his five other finalists — UCF, Rutgers, Miami, Maryland and Auburn.
“I'm just blessed to be in this position,” Anderson said in his announcement video on his X. “As a kid, I always dreamed of this and it's finally coming true. I want to thank West Orange, the whole coaching staff for believing in me (and) pushing me to be the best version of myself. I want to thank my teammates as well; they've played a big part (in) pushing me to be the best that I could be (by) being there when I was down, having that connection with me, that brotherhood we (have). … (My grandma also) played a big part of this too … I know she’s looking down at me smiling right now, knowing her grandson is doing good. … Everybody (has) a why, and this is my why. This (is who) I do it for: my grandma, my mom and my family. That's my why. It's been a long journey, but for the next three to four years, I'll be committed to the University of Louisville. Go Cards.”
At 6-foot-1 and 190 pounds, Anderson was a do-it-all for the Warriors last season on both sides of the ball, racking up a total of 897 all-purpose yards and five touchdowns on offense and three interceptions, 10 pass breakups and 38 total tackles on defense.
"Louisville is getting a great young man who defines loyalty," said West Orange football coach Geno Thompson. "(He is) someone who is all in for the program! Devonte Anderson is going to be a household name sooner (rather) than later. He is a dude that can lock down half of the field and require offenses to double him wherever he is."
