Winter Garden artists wins $5,000 to showcase his art

Winter Garden's Don Harrell was one of 20 recipients to win the 2025–2026 Individual Artist Awards from the United Arts of Central Florida.


Don Harrell is a professor at the University of Central Florida with the purpose of teaching African Studies through storytelling, engaging his students through various mediums.

Don Harrell from Winter Garden received $5,000 to create his art work, "Orisirisi Earth Day Celebration," from the United Arts of Central Florida. 

The United Arts of Central Florida is investing $100,000 directly into artists and creative entrepreneurs in the area to foster creativity in communities.  . 

The $100,000 was raised by United Arts' Athletes for Artists golf tournament and Duke Energy. 

The 2025–2026 Individual Artist awardees will launch work, varying from immersive art to education, wellness and environmental storytelling. 

These projects will be seen across Orange, Seminole, Lake and Osceola counties throughout 2026.
