In Oakland Nature Preserve and the town there have been reports of a black bear the last few days.

The Nature Preserve reminded people to be aware that a fed bear is a dead bear. It’s important for residents to not allow bears to have access and get conditioned to easy food sources. Once bears are food conditioned they become more frequent in residential areas and cause property damage.

Residents should secure all of their trash in the garage or shed and put the trash out in the morning of pickup.

Black bear attacks are rare, but the Oakland Nature Preserve wanted to remind people to be bear-aware, follow proper trash protocols and keep all pets leashed.
