West and Southwest Orange High School football teams enter the gridiron for the final time during regular season play.
Two of the biggest names in the West and Southwest Orange area are meeting up: Dr. Phillips and West Orange. The programs are no strangers, the rivalry dates back to 1987. Each team has a history of known production and they’ve clinched the divisional title. Last year when the Panthers and Warriors matched up, Dr. Phillips came away with a 33-11 win. To succeed, we can expect air action from West Orange’s QB AJ Chung who’s thrown 33 touchdowns this year and ground speed in Dr. Phillips RB Zion Matthews.
Ocoee’s reaching to come back from its loss last week against the No. 20 team in Florida, Jones, but it won’t be an easy feat. The Knights started out its season hot, shutting out Apopka but it’s been cursed with piling up injuries. Ocoee’s QB Tyson Davison has been key for team to succeed this year, he’ll need to continue to find the connections with his receivers.
Lake Buena Vista and Olympia enter with a 3-6 record and are hoping to finish out this year on a positive note. Lake Buena Vista’s hosting Liberty, who’s yet to pull out a win. The Vipers will have its home fans on its side and statistics. RB James Yauger is averaging 124.8 points per game. Olympia’s coming off a high from defeating East Ridge and securing second place in its district. The team’s finding its footing at the tail end of the season and need to finish with one more push.
Windermere High’s the newest school in the area and the team is hosting its close neighbors for the famous Battle of the Groves over the Smudge Pot. Last year Windermere defeated Horizon 13-7, it was close and intense.
Horizon’s entering as the clear statistical underdogs, the team is less than .500 this season while Windermere’s 8-0 and were undefeated last year. Each team has a very different offensive style. Horizon’s a runner, its leading rusher is Kaio Oliveira who just surpassed 1,000 rushing yards this season. Windermere’s primarily an air-based team, its QB Braylon Sanchez is averaging 136.8 yards per game.
The Hawks defense will be under the microscope as it tries to stop a Wolverines team who produces 48.2 points per game. Stakes and emotions will be at a peak.
