Five out of the eight matchups scheduled for this week of West, Southwest Orange high school football games are district games. We can expect to see those schools play their hearts out.

Each team is about halfway through its season and we’ve seen some dominating performances from schools like Dr. Phillips, CFCA, Windermere and West Orange.

Ocoee started off hot, winning its first game of the season 47-0 over Apopka, but the Knights have had some tough contenders in its last two games. The team travels to West Port for its second district game and hopes of returning to the winning side of the scoreboard.

CFCA hosts a fellow private school, Windermere Prep, who had its first loss last week. The Eagles are striving to continue its winning streak by using key playmakers like running back Jahmari Hammonds.

The highlight reel of this week is Dr. Phillips hosting Olympia.

Game of the Week: Dr. Phillips (4-1) vs. Olympia (1-4)*

The teams have a long past and are led by coaches who are highly familiar with the programs. Dr. Phillips’ coach Rodney Wells has been there since 2011 and Olympia’s coach Travis Gabriel since 2018. The pair have a friendship and grew up in the area, but once the kickoff begins that pauses.

It’s essentially a playoff game for the two schools because of the perks of having a winning district record. Olympia has been beat the last two seasons, the last time it won against Dr. Phillips was in 2022. The Panthers shut out the Titans last year, 42-0, and won a playoff game in 2023.

If we only look at the records, it’s easy to say Olympia might loose this game, but those are just numbers. The Panthers starting quarterback, Camren West, went down in the game against Ocoee and has yet to return to his original strength. Wells and the staff want to prioritize his recovery so it’s likely Tien Williams will continue to get playtime.

In two of Olympia’s games the opponents just scraped by the Titans. The team lost by three in its fist game and by four last week to Lake Nona. The Titans lost 36 seniors after 2023, so this group of players are entering their second year together and becoming more familiar with how to work through the challenges.
