OCPS opens magnet and scholastic academies to all Central Florida

Families inside and outside Orange County now will be able to apply for OCPS magnet and scholastic academies.

Orange County Public Schools has opened its magnet and scholastic academies to all families in Central Florida, whether they live in or out of Orange County. 

Families can apply during the spring/summer application window starting 9 a.m. Wednesday, April 1, for the district's "most in-demand and innovative programs," according to a news release from the district. 

Seats will be awarded on a first-applied-first-seated basis. 

The magnet programs and academies offer rigorous, specialized pathways designed to match students' talents and passions. 

Programs are available in artificial intelligence; aviation; law, finance and criminal justice; eSports; medical studies; STEAM; gifted education and performing arts. 

"These programs are designed to prepare students college, careers and life," said Michelle Thomas, the director of School Choice Services for OCPS. "By opening applications to all families, we are expanding access to high-quality, specialized education opportunities."
