Daniel Coman, 44, was arrested Monday, March 30, after beating a man on S.R. 249 near Disney World, assaulting an officer, resisting arrest with violence and criminal mischief.

According to the arrest affidavit, Hans Hamilton was driving on the highway when he witnessed a white Lexus crashed into the guardrail and saw Coman on the ground.

Hamilton approached Coman to ask if he could render any aid until first responders arrived on scene, but upon arrival, Coman charged at his car and began banging and stomping his feet, the arrest affidavit said.

Coman began attacking Hamilton, getting him to the ground before wrapping his legs around Hamilton's head and striking him multiple times with closed fists.

"Hans had visible marks, lacerations, swelling and bruising on his face which he said he received from Daniel (Coman) striking him at least 15 times today, if not more," the affidavit reads.

Winston Johnson was driving northbound on S.R. 429 and witnessed Coman attacking Hamilton, prompting him to stop and help Hamilton.

When police arrived, Coman became visibly angry and agitated, telling the officer to get away from him.

He stood up and began "walking aggressively"  toward the officer, who attempted to push and hold Coman back. The officer said Coman attempted to strike him, but with quick moves, he was able to redirect Coman onto the ground.

Coman was resisting, attempting to get up, locking his arms and resisting to being handcuffed, the affidavit said.

Hamilton and Johnston assisted the officer by holding Coman down so handcuffs could be placed.

Florida Highway Patrol Deputy M. Dees and Deputy N. Smith assisted the officer in carrying Coman to the back of his patrol vehicle, as Coman refused to stand up or walk.

"Daniel (Coman) began violently resisting upon arriving at my truck and grabbed Deputy M. Dees in the groin," the affidavit said.

Due to Coman's actions, he was again placed onto the ground while kicking and trying to evade the police.

While kicking his legs, Coman struck FHP Deputy N. Smith in the chest, but was able to be controlled eventually.

He was transported to Horizon West Hospital for treatment, and is facing five charges; battery on law enforcement officer; criminal Mischief; resisting officer with violence; assault on law enforcement officer; and battery. His bond is set at $5,000.

Hamilton is in the hospital with four broken ribs, a brain bleed, multiple contusions and a concussion.

A GoFundMe has been set to help Hamilton with medical expenses, damages done to his car and insurance deductibles.
