Kamaria Simmons, 4-year-old girl from Apopka, was killed when she was run over by an SUV.
The fatal crash occurred at Robinson Avenue and 13th Street around 7:14 p.m. Wednesday, April 1, the Florida Highway Patrol wrote in its official press release.
Simmons was standing next to the 2018 Chevrolet Traverse's right rear passenger door. The driver proceeded forward in an easterly direction, which caused Simmons to fall and be struck by the SUV. She was transported to the Arnold Palmer Hospital, where she was pronounced dead, FHP wrote.
The crash remains under investigation.
Simmons' older brother Makah Simmons is a player on Ocoee High's baseball team. The Ocoee Baseball Alumni wrote on social media that the love and support for Makah Simmons and his family has been incredible.
Family and friends are welcome to join in remembrance of Kamari for a candlelight vigil at 1160 Robinson St., Apopka, at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, April 4. Ocoee's baseball alumni said it will provide rides if anyone can't make it and would like to support a fellow Knight.
