The Oakland Nature Preserve has canceled its Firefly Night event for the evening of Tuesday, April 7.

Due to expected high winds, the event had to be canceled.

However, two more nights now will be available for attendees to enjoy, Thursday, April 9, and Saturday, April 18.

Before visiting the preserve to watch fireflies, check with staff to see what conditions are like for that day.

"We have noticed that light rain doesn’t seem to bother them, but high winds keep them low to the ground or stops all their activities temporarily," ONP explained. "We are excited for as many people as possible to experience this surreal event, so check and save the other upcoming dates."
