Dr. Phillips High student arrested for bringing handgun to school

17-year-old Joshua Brown was arrested Thursday, April 9, after police were notified he had a gun in his possession.

Dr. Phillips High School student Joshua Brown, 17, was arrested Thursday, April 9, after bringing a handgun to campus. 

According to the Orlando Police Department, Dr. Phillips High was notified of a student on campus with a loaded firearm. 

Officers quickly identified Brown and located him in class. 

Brown attempted to flee, but School Resource Officers intervened and safely took him into custody. 

A 9mm handgun was recovered from his backpack.

He now faces charges of possession of a firearm on school property, possession of a firearm by a minor and resisting arrest without violence.
