Speeding around Esteem Academy and Whispering Oak Elementary School just became more consequential.
The two Winter Garden schools now have school zone cameras that currently are operational.
Esteem Academy, located at 12301 Warrior Road, will have a warning period through Wednesday, March 25.
Whispering Oak Elementary School, located at 15300 Stoneybrook West Parkway, will have a warning period through Tuesday, March 31.
After the respective warning periods for each school ends, $100 civil citations will begin for speeding violations.
The cameras are active 30 minutes before and after a school day as well as during the entire school day, but they only are active on days that school is in session.
Violations will be issued to people driving more than 10 mph over the posted speed limit.
A violation is a civil penalty and does not affect driving privileges or insurance.
These are the first Winter Garden schools to have school zone cameras implemented after the Winter Garden City Commission passed an ordinance in January 2025 approving the speed-detection camera system for school zones.
The city plans to activate the speed-detection camera systems at the remaining city of Winter Garden schools during the 2026-2027 school year.
The Winter Garden Police Department will enforce the program, which has the intention of increasing the safety of children and staff in school zones by deterring speeding.
