Following the announcement of Caleb Walls taking over the helm of Dr. Phillips High’s football program, the school announced Friday, Feb. 20, that Darryl Monroe will step in as the offensive coordinator.

Monroe played his high school career as a Panther, where he was named one of the top five linebackers in Central Florida and led the team in tackles his junior year. Following graduation, he played college football as a linebacker on Washington State University’s team. As a redshirt freshman, he earned a varsity letter after starting all 12 games.

His coaching journey began in 2017. Monroe worked as the defensive coordinator for Wekiva High and Lake Minneola, outside linebackers coach at Ottawa University, and offensive coordinator and quarterback coach at West Orange High from 2018-2020. Monroe also had a one-year stint as head coach of Miami Senior High in 2021 to 2022.
