Four West and Southwest Orange High School basketball teams remain in the state title hunt. They have to win one more game in order to make it to the Final Four of the tournament.
Ocoee High vs. Colonial at 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 27
Kicking off the weekend is the Ocoee High girls basketball team. The Knights are looking to make it to the Final Four for the second consecutive year. Ocoee earned the No. 1 seed in the 7A Region 1 bracket of the tournament, which has allowed the team to have a home court advantage for all of the games. The Knights began the tournament by reeling in a 63-30 win over Hagerty, followed by a 60-27 win over Timber Creek. Ocoee will host the regional final game against No. 2 Colonial and enters the game with a 23-5 record, while Colonial is 22-5.
CFCA vs. Orlando Christian Prep at 4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 28
On the boys side of the court, Central Florida Christian Academy will kick off the slate of regional final games. Last season, the Eagles’ campaign ended in the regional finals with a 62-39 loss to North Tampa Christian Academy. CFCA earned the No. 1 seed in the 1A Region 2 tournament. The team began its journey by topping Halifax Academy 82-42, followed by Mount Dora Christian Academy 69-58. CFCA will host the regional final game against No. 2 Orlando Christian Prep and enters the game with a 22-6 record, compared to OCP’s 21-6.
Olympia High at Oak Ridge at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 28
Olympia High is the only public West Orange boys team still in playoff contention. The Titans lost last season in the first round of the regional tournament to St. Cloud 63-49. This time around, Olympia started strong on the road by topping Palm Beach Central 62-51, followed by defeating Wellington 57-40. The No. 2 Titans will head back on the road to play No. 1 Oak Ridge. Olympia holds a 17-10 record entering the game and Oak Ridge is 19-9.
The First Academy vs. Providence School at 6 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 28
The First Academy rounds out the boys basketball teams competing in the regional finals. Last year TFA made it to the regional finals, but the team lost 50-48 to The Master’s Academy. Now the Royals will compete for the region championship after winning 74-32 over Trinity Catholic and 65-36 over P.K. Yonge. No. 2 TFA will host the regional final game against No. 1 Providence School and the Royals hold a 19-10 record, while Providence is 26-3.
