Pepper the opossum has been an ambassador at Oakland Nature Preserve for nearly three years now.

According to ONP, she greeted thousands of visitors at the preserve and met hundreds of children.

Over the past couple of years, Pepper began to show signs of "slowing down," which led staff to monitor her closely.

"At between 2.5 to 3 years old, she had a longer life than typical wild opossums," ONP posted. "She passed away peacefully in her favorite bed last week."

She will be dearly missed.

ONP asks anyone with photos and videos of her to share them with staff. Photos will be added to Pepper's photo album.
