OCPS is asking parents, students and community members to fill out a survey regarding the future name of the elementary school soon to open in Horizon West.

The school, located off Hartzog Road, will open to students in August.

According to OCPS, the process will begin with this open-ended survey to solicit input for names.  Then, there will be a second survey with the top five names.

The top three names from that vote will then be submitted to the School Board, where the name will be selected.

This initial survey will be open until 4 p.m. Friday, Feb. 6.

When coming up with a name, the county asks to take these things into consideration:

  • This is an elementary school
  • The name of the area(s) where the school is located
  • The historical or geographical features of the area where the school is located
  • Much of the school zone is under construction or a developing area that will be serving new and existing neighborhoods.
