The Ocoee Police Department is urging residents to be wary of potential bank fraud scams.

Sgt. David Ogletree with Ocoee PD's Criminal Investigations Division said residents have reported a few scams in which residents have received fraudulent text messages.

He said when the residents respond, they receive phone calls about their bank accounts being hacked or possible fraudulent activity. They then are told to go to the bank, withdraw a large amount of cash and then provide that cash to a third party.

"Do not answer these texts," Ogletree said in a Facebook video. "You are not obligated to, you are not obligated to answer any phone calls. If anything looks suspicious, just hang up the phone."

He is asking residents to call the Ocoee Police Department at (407) 905-3160 to report the scam.

When in doubt, residents also can call the bank using a trusted number.
