The Orange County Sheriff's Office is warning residents of a scam.

If you receive a call or text message, including a document via text, claiming to be from the Orange County Sheriff's Office that states you have a warrant requiring payment in order to resolve it, it is a scam.

"The Orange County Sheriff's Office will never contact you to ask for money," the department said on social media.

The sheriff's office is instructing those who receive this call or text to hang up the phone and to not respond to the text.

"Do not engage with the caller, and do not send any money," the sheriff's office said.

Instead, residents should contact law enforcement for assistance.

For Orange County, call the non-emergency line at (407) 836-4357.
